About Paul

A lifetime of showing up for Loyalist

Paul was born in Kingston and has called Loyalist home since 1978. He retired as a school principal after 29 years in education, 22 of them teaching grades 7 and 8. He'll tell you that job taught him the most underrated skill in politics: listening. Everyone has a story worth hearing, no matter the issue.

He's been married to Heather for 34 years. Their son Aidan just graduated university. After 13 years coaching Loyalist minor hockey, Paul's now a director with the Amherstview Jets Junior Hockey Club — his first season off the bench in over a decade. He's a sports and news junkie, an occasional golfer, and admits he eats out more than he should (hamburgers are his weakness). He and Heather are golden retriever people through and through, and are already talking about adding a new pup to the family.

Paul ran for council once before, in 2018, and came up short. He ran again in 2022 and won Ward Three — and in four years on council, he hasn't missed a single meeting. He's chaired the Heritage Committee, the Committee of Adjustment, and the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, and he sits on Conservation Ontario's board, building relationships across the region that he believes will serve Loyalist well at the County table.

Now he's asking for your vote to take that same hands-on approach as Loyalist Township's Deputy Mayor and representative on County Council.

Strength in the Storm

We are living in very uncertain times, and I will work to ensure that the township has the support and services that you and your family will need.
I will encourage council and staff to come up with smarter, more creative ways to deliver programs and find efficiencies — rather than adding costs to your tax bill.
Standing behind the small businesses in Loyalist Township, and finding creative, low-cost wins — like the Township's partnership with Brookland Homes that brought your kids a pump track, without a new bill to you.
Pushing back when other levels of government download costs onto your property tax bill.
Staying vigilant on decisions made beyond our borders — pushing back on data centres that would drain your water and energy for no real benefit to you, and watching projects like the Alto rail line closely on your behalf.

Engaged Leadership

I show up to every council meeting prepared — agenda read, questions ready — and I make sure to engage with staff and residents on the important issues for Loyalist Township.
I'm proud that I've attended all of the town halls in every ward during this last term of council. It's an excellent way to meet you and find out what's on your mind.
Advocating for you, representing Loyalist at the Cataraqui Conservation Authority.
Advocating for you and your family at Lennox and Addington County Council, ensuring that your needs are met with services such as paramedics, long-term care, and social services.
Making sure decisions that affect you get made the right way, with real input from everyone they touch — and the courage to make the right call, even when it isn't the popular one.
