June 1 Seniors EXPO

A great day put together by the Loyalist Family Health Team showcasing many of the services available to local residents. Hopefully it will become an annual event.

June 6 Direct Coil/OPG Visits

Along with staff and members of council we visited both sites learning about the operations and needs of the industrial operations. I was impressed by the knowledge and commitment demonstrated by the staff at both operations. Direct Coil is actively seeking employees so if you know someone looking send them in their direction.

June 7 Splash Pad Open House

While the open house was sparsely attended it appears the interest in the project is strong with over 1,200 on-line responses being received by that date. Should you wish to keep up on progress of this initiative follow it at https://www.loyalist.ca/en/explore-and-play/splash-pad-community-engagement.aspx .

June 20 Umicore Open House

Umicore Rechargeable Battery Materials (RBM), a business unit of Belgium-based Umicore, is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township. This plant, the first of its kind in North America, will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain, and will bring environmentally sustainable economic growth to the region. Umicore continues to reach out to the community through open houses and social media. The second open house was held recently and was well attended. A more detailed outline of Umicore's plans for Loyalist can be found at the link below:

June 21 Amherstview West Secondary Plan Open House

Thank you to all who attended the second Public Open House. Both presentation sessions were well attended. For those who were unable to attend but wish to participate, the presentation, display boards, and draft evaluation of alternatives are below:

The Township welcomes feedback on the land use options, draft evaluation of alternatives and criteria, and draft preferred option identified from the evaluation. The preferred option will continue to be refined as the project progresses and input from Township staff, project committees, and the community is received. The final preferred land use option will be carried forward in the preparation of the Draft Secondary Plan.

June 28 County of Lennox & Addington Council

The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving rural connectivity, supporting economic growth and enhancing quality of life. Created by the Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus (EOWC) in 2010, EORN helps to create innovative public-private partnerships to address the digital divide and support a stronger future for rural eastern Ontario communities. An update to the current status of the project can be found at the following link

As part of the Ontario Government’s goal of building 1.5 million homes by 2031, the EOWC is looking to do our part to increase housing supply through our ‘7 in 7’ regional housing plan. Across the EOWC region, there are 12,000 to 14,000 units on municipal community rental housing wait lists. The EOWC’s ‘7 in 7’ regional housing plan proposes building at least 7,000 community rental units over seven years across the region to address the wait lists. Using a mixed-model approach, the ‘7 in 7’ plan has the added benefit to bring on nearly 21,000 additional market rate units. Information on the project can be found at the following link
