A few ideas
Community Programming
Loyalist needs to commit to programming that supports all cohorts of the community. Evening youth programming and daytime programs for seniors need to have support from the Township. Investments in such programming pay benefits that often cannot be measured in dollars.
Tourism
From the days of the Ernestown train stop to the urbanization of today Loyalist and its predecessor has always been a township of two dichotomies. Our rural past is often in conflict with our urban future. Our waterfront is an untapped resource and should be a focus of eco-tourism in concert with a vast network of already established bike trails. Many bike tours travel along highway 33 and should be encouraged to try Loyalist.
Environment
Residents are asking for a green bin program. Such a program has not been undertaken by past councils and needs to be re-examined. Many other centres offer composting and we owe our residents at least a look at the possibilities of such a program. It would redirect waste from our township dump sites and encourage better environmental practices. Last election I commented it was time for the township to look at electric vehicles for their fleet. I stand by this four years later.
